Origin of the Gikuyu Tribe of profound Kenya
Narrating the story as it was handed down to me in my beforehand(predicate) years in Primary school, The Gikuyu tribe originated from a gentlemans gentleman they called Gikuyu. This man, was called by Goa a-top Mt. Kenya (kirinyaga). It was there that Gikuyu was shown the beauty of the province below, and was granted rights over the land as well as stewardship of the land. Wanjiku Kabira in her book, Agikuyu The Rosen print Group, 9 (1995), describes the land as flowing with milk and honey, a land of ridges, hills, rivers, forests, and grassy areas.
Further, that Gikuyu was in owe at the land and Ngai (God) said to him Behold you land. This is for you and for your generations to come. Id.
According to M. Gatheru, Child of two Worlds, Routledge and Kegan Paul Ltd. 3(1964), the story of Gikuyu and Mumbi was handed down from father to boy about the origin of our people. To us it is the same deep and inviolate meaning as the story about Adam and eve in the Bible.
The narrative continues that Gikuyu came down from the mountain and found a lady waiting for him under a fig head and her name was Mumbi(Creator).
