Isabella Baumfree, who later changed her name to Sojourner legality, was born in 1797, in Ulster County, youthful York. She was born genius of thirteen children to Elizabeth and James Baumfree, who were slaves. Sojourner was sold at the age of nine to John Neely, who beat her frequent for miscommunication.
